Talk'n IFS, What about blown CV boots? #494430 08/27/04 06:21 AM

Wheeling and blew the CV boot.
Wrapped it with a garbage bag & duct tape and kept wheeling
Thru lots of water and 200 miles the "fix" held...

Now I'm going to fix it.
Anyone got a bullet proof suggestion???
(other than SAS)

I rebuilt these once, ie axle was beyond just a grease and boot repair. Cured me PDQ; what a hassle, esp with getting the one side off the roll pin.

If you think the internals are okay, you can get away with a boot kit plus the snap ring for the axle end (not part of the kit). The ring in the kit is for the tulip joint.

If it's makin' noise, yank that one, take it to NAPA, and save yourself the $90 core return they want. Slap 'er in, keep goin.
Used the garbage bag and duct tape trick m'self!

Project truck is going to go back together with the diff studs modified tho'.
