posted about a week ago on finding an '83 LC. Went back to check it out today. I was thinking that since it was bigger than my 4runner I would be able to upgrade some parts but it looks to be all 4 cylinder running gear! I was thinking of doing the brake upgrade, but the calipers are the same as the 4 cylinder ones, so I guess I'll wait to find some v-6 ones. The master cylinder was 7/8" but had another little cylinder running perpendicular under it. Also, the booster didn't seem any bigger in diameter than my '85's but looked alot thicker. Are these just as good as the 1" v-6's? The third members were also the 4 cylinder variety, anyone happen to know the gearing in these? I'll probably go back tommorrow for the knuckles, hopefully I can salvage those rotors, they were kind of rusty. Anything else I should be looking to pull off tommorrow?

ah, no the thirds aren't 4 banger thirds! at least the rear, anyway. i think the rear uses something like an 8.7? ring gear

The thirds on those are 8" high pinion. the front ones are reverse cut 8" thirds. FJ60 in 83 came with inline 6 cylinder.
If you dont't like religeous holidays, go to work.Otherwise, let's call them what they are. It's freedom OF religion not from. 95-4R,SAS,f/r locked,35MT/R 5spd, 4:1,5.29. my site

I posted on the LC board and was told, "They are fine spline pinion, 3.7 diffs. They will not fit your mini." I'm looking for 4.56 or 4.88, but I know the high pinions are highly sought after. The diff housings looked exactly like the 4 cylinder housings though, with 3 fins and they didn't look high pinion. Are these something I want to grab?

FJ-60 differentials are the same as those used in FJ-40s. They are not interchangable with mini truck differentials. The high pinion 8" third member came in the front of FJ-80 Land Cruisers, not FJ-60s.

LC 60 series use 9 1/2" front and rear. (in Europe anyway)
The LC 70 use a high pinion reverse cut 8" up front (4.3 / 4.56 or 4.88 OEM) and the 8" in the back.
The LC80 also use a high pinion reverse cut 8" up front (3.7)and the 9 1/2" in the back.
So yes, you can't swap the 60 series diffs.

dana axles? huh?
all i know of toyota using non toyota axles is in south africa, where they use a locally made rear end(to comply with laws stating that a certain % of a truck has to be made in the country)

I can verify that Dana axles are used in Venezuela. The FJ70s down there had offset small tube semi float 6 lug Dana 60 rear axles.

And I can verify that in Europe they use Toyota axles on the 70 series. I swap those parts all the time with pickups. And I have the 70 series front axle (high pinion) with coils and 3 link suspension in the front of my 4R.
Not that odd if you think about it. My first pickup was a VW Taro which was a Toy Hilux with factory VW emblems. All parts were shipped to Germany where some VW guys bolted everything together. This was done due to some import tax advantage, so looks to me like this can happen all the time.
On a trip to Portugal I found that the Toy Hilux was sold there without bed, rear lights etc. You were supposed to build your own bed! I saw tons of those with the same nose as mine, but with a wooden shed were the bed normaly is. Looks like they were hauling there garage around town.
