I installed the Silverstars in my Runner, granted they were whiter and brighter than stock but I could not keep them from blowing.....4-8 months and they would blow, one right after the other...happened every time I put new ones in. I do run my headlights at ALL times though so maybe that has something to do with it?

I'm 100 percent satisfied with my silverstars! I've had them for well over a year now and couldn't be happier with them. When I first put them in, I did the usual comparison with the stock bulbs and could immediately tell the difference between the two. The stock light looked quite dim, like it was on low beam and the silverstar like it was on high beam. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

I dont know what climit you live in, but when I had Silverstars in my 97 Grand Am (which had DLR installed) and they lasted 2 years, and they still worked when I sold my car. That was in upstate NY which saw temps from 98 degrees all the way down to -30 in the winter. I have had them in my 4runner for 4 months with no problems. They are the only bulbs I use.

A while back someone here wrote to Sylvania asking about the lifespan of their bulbs. They got a really honest reply stating that the Sylvania Silverstar bulbs do not last as long as other type bulbs because of the additional heat generated to make them brighter. We all agreed that it was cool that the guy was honest about it. I have just bought my first set of Sylvania Silverstar bulbs and will install them soon. I might switch out to the cheapies during the hot summer months when I don't use the headlamps much at all anyways.

I know AutoZone and Advance carry them. I'd suspect all the big chains carry the Silverstars. They were about $20 each.

I have put the silverstars in my '95 Land Rover Disovery and in my wife's '92 Camry and it made a noticable improvement in both of them. I would recommend them to anyone. Walmart carries the silverstars, and they were $37 in a 2 bulb package last time I bought a set. The parts stores carry them, but around here they want twice as much as Wallyworld The silverstars are noticably whiter than standard bulbs. I'd buy them for my other Toyotas, but they all have the old school square headlamps and I don't feel like replacing those. Roger Brown from this bulletin board has some good information on his website on replacing the factory wire harness for the bulbs too. He said he got a noticable improvement by swapping out the harness. I think it was only like $39 plus s/h off his website. This is likely the route I will go for my '85 and '90 Toyotas.

Don't install 100W light bulbs w/o using upgraded harness.
Search for headlight wiring harness or go to www.suvlights.com and buy the harness for Toyotas, you need the negative switchable version.
Then you have full power up front.

+1,000

I just installed the APC 509101 wiring harness in my '85, it made a huge difference in the light up front.
