I've noticed a peculiar hiccup in the idle of my truck. It does only do it when it is warm or once the cold start injector has kicked off. Here is what happens it will idle smooth, I mean balancing a champagne glass on the valve cover smooth for about a count of 3 seconds and then it gets the slightest hiccup nothing serious just enough to note it in the exhaust tone and when inside the shifter will jiggle along with the idle until the hiccup then the shifter will jolt slightly with the hiccup, thats how I first noticed it. Anyways this goes on and on the same process. I dont know if its just me and I'm expecting a honda accord smooth idle or what but its bugging me. Otherwise no other problems no hesitation, or stumbling while driving, no surging or sputtering. So whos got ideas?? Thanks alot.

Matt

Which engine?

Assuming an EFI, you might check the TPS idle setting. If its off, you won't have as smooth an idle.

good point, 22RE. However can the tps setting be off without it being removed in the last 2 years?? when it was fine before?? Just a thought, thanks though. Any insight is welcome.

Small chance it could have worn out the contact material at the idle position. I only suggested it because it takes a minute to check and it gives a simple yes/no answer on whether that component is the source of the problem or not.

Mine was...I never touched the thing and one day, baboom...
wouldn't idle or time right. It's a good opportunity to
take the throttle body off and clean it out too since
adjusting the TPS is much easier done on the bench. I swear
that TPS thing is the nexus of the Yota universe! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> At lot
of other stuff relies on it working properly...guess that's
why Toyota can charge over $100 for it and not even flinch.

I have the exact same problem with my runner, word for word! It does nothing performance wise...its just annoying. I cleaned out the throtle body and while that gave more HP it didn't stop the hikups. My next target is the EGR or that bloody TPS. let know if you find anything.
