Annoying brake squeal.... #509129 10/04/04 01:15 AM

Well, with about 10k miles on the truck since I got it (4 months ago), I've developed a rather nasty squeal. I've checked the pads all arround, rotors and drums. All meet their minimum specs with ease and I can't find any noticable defects. Upon reassembly of the rear drums, I tightened the pads (they were a bit loose when this all started) and the problem went away for about a week. Now it's back with a vengence.

I do NOT have easy (within 150 miles) access to anywhere that can turn drums or rotors, and I really don't think that's necessary.... though my experience is 100% motorcycle related (I'm a MC mechanic by trade, and have only just had 4-wheeled vehicles again in over a decade). I didn't check the alignment of the pad.. I think I remember reading something about checking how the pads engage the drum in the FSM.

The noise is very obviously comming from the rear. It only happens when I lightly apply the brakes, and goes away with hard braking.

So, with that info, any opinions or thoughts? The truck doesn't get much use durring the week, but probably an average of 600 miles every weekend (this next one will be more, probably close to 1000 miles). Thanks in advance.

Cheers,

Hey Brian -

Me too. Cleaned mine up last week and they still squeak lightly when the brake is first applied. I'll run it out to the dealership soon, turning up the volume on the CD player for now.

Did you hear we had a tornado touch down in Millford the other day? It's peak/opening weekend here, so South Pass is covered in gold Aspens and Safety orange. How's AZ?
