Unfortunately not the ranks I would like to join. went wheelin' this weekend with the club, saturday was a blast (I'll post pics, later maybe). Today wasn't quite as good. Right away this morning (sunday) we went again and the first obstacle I tried was a loose hill climb with a steep nearly verticle wall about 4ft high at the top. I've done it before... Heard a pop, then was informed my front tires weren't turning. checked things out and discovered I forgot to put it in 4wd ( I have 2-lo capability). Try again in 4-lo. Better but still not good. Now I am informed that only one rear tire is spinning. I'm locked. Or atleast I SHOULD BE LOCKED. hmmm

Hauled it home on a club members trailer (probably not on here, but thanks Bruce). Checked the locker first, as that was the best guess. Nope. Snapped the shaft off right at the splines.



Moral of the story: Don't use excessive skinny pedal in 2-lo <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Are the shafts the same length for both sides or are they different?

Any good tricks for getting the broken partout with out pullng the diff out?

Bummer on the breakage... get yourself a pickup magnet, and the stub should pull out pretty easily. Tape the outside diameters of the magnet so that it doesn't stick to the insides of the axle tube, but the face of the magnet is still exposed. Then fish away!
