One of my dad's 4 jeeps is having an issue. One of his front axle shafts on his '95 GC is bad. I told him I would see if you Jeep guys would know how to fix or replace it. I looked in the tech section but didn't see anything. Can the CV joint be replaced or does the whole shaft have to be replaced. Are their any special tools required to do the job ??

the CV joint's u-joints are probably bad. replaceing those can be a bit more involved, but if you take your time and use a vise with a small socket big socket aproach, it will work fine.

I had the same issue on my '97 which lead me to this article http://www.4x4wire.com/jeep/tech/axle/weak_link/ call up South Bay Driveline they'll hook you up. I've been riding on mine for over 30k and no problems. It's a very easy conversion.

after re reading the post today.. i have came to the conclusion that speedreading at 10:20 after working hard all night is probably not the best way to give the right advice.

you can go to a junkyard and get and axle shaft from either a cherokee or a grandcherokee as long as it doesn't have an axle disconnect and it shoudl work. if your jeep has ABS the axle shaft you get to replace it will need to come with the metal counter ring for the abs or your ABS light will come on and you will only have normal hydrolic brakes.
