I've heard you folks talk about adding something to a front main oil seal to stop it from leaking when replaced on an older motor. What's it called and where can I get one?My new seal is leaking a drop or two after running! Thanks!

If your thinking about the sleeve and seal from Engnbldr that will help, if there was a groove worn in the crank pully. I think the kit was 15.00 for a front and back sleeve.

It is called a sleeve. I've heard nothing but good things about engnbldr and plan on purchasing some valve adjusting screws from him. This three hour time difference thing is messing me up as far as calling in the order though.

Email him with your order! You can do that, call or even mail in your order...but it is kinda fun to rattle his chain on the phone. Last I heard he was out of the screws, trying to trackdown a supplier...but ask him for the skinny...I could be blowing hot air up your....nevermind. LOL

For the orignal poster Mister Solarcrew...if its leaking after installing a new front main seal, chances are these boys is correct. Crankpulley gets grooved from the seal spring...result is a mess up front of the engine...and as time passes a mess of the engine compartment and underside of your truck. Makes for great corrosion protection..but looks like crap.

I'll see if I can find any pictures of the problem and cure. Alternative to a sleeve is to not seat the seal fully into the oil pump thus causing the spring to ride forward of the groove on the shaft....but this isnt the proper way to handle it...hell even I dont shortcut it this way.

The sleeve looks like someone cut the bottom 1/3rd off of a Coke can. One side has a lip on it. I installed mine by putting the sleeve on as far as I could with hand strength (which is pretty strong on my right hand, ) and then I sat the crank pulley on the flat garage floor (sleeve side down) and then put a board on top of the pulley, and hammered the poop out of it until it slid on all the way.

Well if you can get it on lip first, make a video so I can watch. For real though the lip should face the (edit block) for the front and the lip on the rear will face the fylwheel. Heres a Pic Of my crank I just sleeved. [Linked Image]

You'll be set in not time now.
GoodLuck
