I am still thinking of pulling my fuel injectors out. Has anyone done this? If so, how difficult is this? I read through the brief instructions in the Haynes manual and it doesn't look too involved. Any tricks or peculiarities I need to be aware of? I am also thinking about the timing of having my truck down for a week if I send the injectors out for cleaning and rebuilding.
Thanks.

I replaced my injectors with bigger ones, its not hard at all. The way I did it was I unplugged the MAF sensor, took the intake hose off the throttle body and set it asside still attached to the MAF and top of the air box. Unbolt the throttle body. Unbolt upper and lower intake manifolds. Next I think there is a small bolt on the back of the right fuel rail, its kinda hard to see, take that out, lossen (do not remove) the bolts that hold the cross pipe that connects the front of the two fuel railes together. no you have to lift the fuel rail off the injectors, it is easy to screw up the O ring on the top of the injector so be carefull. Unplug and pop the injectors out and your done.

*****MAKE SURE TO PUT MASKING TAPE OVER THE INTAKE HOLES SO NOTHING IS DROPPED INTO YOUR CYLINDERS AS SOON AS YOU GET THE INTAKE MANIFOLDS OFF******

Also there will be fuel spillage when you take the injectors off and when you loosen the cross pipe bolts.

I think thats about it, it should cover everything in the manual with pics.

Did you put bigger injectors in because you are going to supercharge it in the future or just for more power?

The bigger injectors were part of the URD fuel kit that I have (Pre 1999) Supercharger Performance Kit 4Runner, Tacoma, and T-100 5VZ-FE Yes I am supercharged.

I finally got around to pulling my injectors. I sent them to Cruzin Performance for cleaning and they came back bright and shiny. Cruzin put new o-rings and the smaller top gasket on each injector. They charge $12 to clean flow-test and rebuild the injectors. When I got them back all I needed to put on was the larger bottom gasket. I bought new intake manifold gaskets and the other parts from the dealer. As part of this repair I put in a new thermostat and radiator hoses.

It took a few hours to tear everything down and then another afternoon to put it back together. I ran the fuel system dry by pulling the fuel circuit opening relay behind the glove compartment door on the right front fender. I used the diagrams and info from the 2003 Tacoma online manual as I don't have my own FSM, but I will be getting one shortly. It is in the mail right now.

The injectors went in with a little vaseline on the o-rings and some gas on the gasket. Once I had them in and everything bolted back on I filled the radiator with coolant and the truck started right up. So far so good. No fuel leaks and no extra bolts left over smile. The truck runs quieter with the cleaned injectors.

I couldn't get a torque wrench on the fuel rail end bolts so I used a regular 17mm wrench and tightened them down as far as I could by hand. No leaks so I think it is okay.

As I worked on the engine I think I have discovered the souces of a slow oil leak. I had a new short block installed a few years ago after a botched timing belt repair that left me with a stripped crankshaft bolt. I think the short block did not perfectly mate with the old cylinder head as I could see lots of black sealant used to fill the gap. The oil looks like it is coming from the camshaft seal at the rear of the engine.

Here are some pics of the injectors and the engine bay.
