Getting the Wheeling Fever

'90 ram50 won't start. Motor won't crank at all and I'm thinking starter. The "maintanance required" light is staying on. Before I buy a new starter, I was wondering if I could pull any codes to be sure this is the problem. This is on a 3.0 automatic. Thanks.

Gave the starter a couple whacks with a wrench and the motor fired up. Is this a sign that my starter may be going soon?
