Well all let me say to all of you thank you for so much information. I have a 1999 Rodeo LS that has already had the engine replaced, the SRS Coil Assembly inside the steering wheel, the relay and control module for the wipers ...... the list is long! Oh when will it stop!

Any way, The engine dies imediately after i hear it fire and let go of the key! I can always get it started but it behaves this way at pretty much every start. Usually after it starts it idles crazy for a bit. The idle speed seems fine at about 750 (Auto Tranny). The fuel pump is priming as the key is turned on (can hear it). Once i get it going, it will not stall or act weird at all.... it does tick or sound a little like a diesel but that is another issue io believe. If the throttle is pressed a bit, it seems to start better. I have my Haynes manual and am thinking it may have a bad fuel pressure regulator.... If any one has any innput i would surely appreciate it!!

i am going through the exact same problems with my gf 99 amigo 3.2. I called st. charles and asked him about it and I suggested a fuel pressure regulator. He said if it doesnt leak, then it most likely isnt it. What he did say is that it is most likely the Intake manifold gasket or the MAF. I have sprayed carb cleaner like crazy all around the gasket on the manifold with no rpm change. So im leaning towards a MAF sensor (would this cause bad gas mileage?) but, the problem has gone away so now i dont know. What i do know is that she is getting 13 MPG!!! i have cleaned it like crazy and cant get it to be right.

so if was you, id check the IMG by spraying carb cleaner (o2 sensor friendly) and see if the rpms change.

I think i am gonna spend the $40.00 and buy the fuel pressure gauge kit so i can ck it ...........
I wonder if the regulator could be giving the rail to much pressure. The gas mileage is a tad less than i remember...

There are no fuel leaks on the rail or by the regulator. Im sure they can fail internally and not provide the rail with the correct pressure....

Well the fuel pressure is only 6 psi higher than the haynes manual says it should be. With the vaccum line off the regulator, pressure also reads good. Pressure holds steady at 30 PSI after i shut off the engine....... but will drop slowly the longer it sits. the inlet air temp sensor reads good, the fuel pump relay is getting power each time the key is turned on. I am still a little perplexed....... Any more ideas out there ???

It's your fuel pressure regulator. Took me a little while to find mine to be leaking. Pull the vacuum hose off the regulator and have a friend turn the key on with the engine off (KOEO). You may observe fuel coming out of the vacuum port of the regulator. Mine shot out pretty far. You may have to do this a couple of times to see it happen. That $40 will be money well spent. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

Even though the pressure in the fuel rail is good...and still cks good with the vacuum hose off ?? Do you know if the regulator and the rail is suppose to hold pressure for a long time even after the car is off.?? The haynes manual says it should drop slightly and hold steady, but it doesnt state for how long. It will continue to drop if i leave it sit.... I only had the gauge on for 15 minutes but it slowly drops. Funny thing is even at Zero i think the fuel pump should prime it right back after turning the Key.....I have no problem changing the regulator but i hate to do it if it wont fix it !!!

Thank you for all your inputs everyone.....

Body Damage is Cool
When I forgot to plug in my MAF sensor i got similar symptoms...
crank start to run and die if I didn't get on the gas.

when looking for a container to hold drained brake fluid, find a container that is different from the beverage you are currently consuming.

Well thank you all for the help. Carl...(CarlHungus) i tried that trick and lo and behold it didnt squirt but it sure was sending fuel out the vacuum port of the Fuel Pressure Regulator! I replaced it this past weekend... should have got one online instead of paying so darn much downtown!! So far so good Thank you all so much

Now maybe soon i can work on things like the window tinting and the Calmini Lift Kit

Take care

Where is this fuel pressure regulator located? My wifeÆs 99 Amigo is having the same problem.

Also, I see you had a problem with your wiper control module, is it that the intermittent feature would not work and they would not park? If so, please contact me if you still have your old control box.

'94, and '00 Amigos and '00, 01 Rodeos. Rodeo springs and aftermarket 'hard top on 94. Aisin hubs OME 919's on the 2000 Amigo. 2000 and 2001 Rodeos have OME 912's and Aisin. Smoother ride with the OME 919's???
