there you go go dogging a m-20 again i wish some one would
post a picture of a properly set up 20 trussed, destroyed
you wont because the after market wonts to make sells
most experince folks have with a 20 is it is wore out
when they get it an nothing has ever been done to it.
%99 of people dogging a 20 has never tore one up they
just pull them out because the seals are leaking an the
2 piece axles are tirds. its stronger than the 44 but
has weak tubes which can be corrected. an i know these
people dont know what there talking about because for
1 thing it aint know dana, and another you look at the
wrightings of professional jeep historians they will
tell you a properly set up 20 is as strong as the rest
besides %75 of destroyed 4x4 equipment is due to lack
of 4x4 experence not knowing how to use it. so i
bet you most of the advice on 20 is here say,not facts.
4ell i bet half of you wouldnt know 1 if you seen it.
which i guess if i were selling 44 an 60 i would create
this 20 phobia 2.i had folks tell me these buggies with
jeep grills are jeeps so 4ell what do i know....
Though a great arguement not really relative. After spending 45 minutes to understand this message I would agree with you that the AMC 20 is a very understated axle for most Jeepers application. BUT, when you talk about swapping in 1-piece axles, trussing the housing, & welding the tubes, why even waste the money? Who cares about the Dana 44's smaller pinion gear when you could have one set-up for less than building that "BULLETPROOF NEVER SEEN A PROPERLY SET-UP AMC 20 BRAKE EVER" axle? It's just not worth it. SUPERDAWG has posted too many times with too many reasons (that I am not going to repeat) why the AMC 20 just isn't worth throwing money at.
I was T-Boned in the right rear of my CJ and that pretty much put the old AMC 20 6-feet under. Before that the housing was already bent from the 4wheeling I have done which is why my seals never SEALED! Went to a heavy duty Ford 9" for the same $$$$ a well built AMC 20 would cost. WHY? THE AMC 20 is A DEAD AXLE!!! They don't make them anymore, unlike a Dana 44, 60, 70, Ford 9, 8.8, etc.....
People who post here post here for knowledge, not criticism that they are unaware of the name of the axles used by jeep. Read the post, he is asking us WHAT KIND OF AXLES DO THE JEEPS HAVE! Newbies learn from people teaching/informaing them. There are a lot of people who have more KNOLWEDGE than both you and I, but they don't parade around trying to make newbies feel like their qustions are unwanted.
