Getting the Wheeling Fever

I've got some noise coming from the manual tranny in 1st, 2nd & 3rd gear. No noise that I can tell in 4th or 5th gear. Tranny fluid checks out fine, no metal shavings either. Truck has 101k on it. Shop says tranny is probably going out. Anyone else have a manual tranny go out on their T? Did you rebuild, get remanufactured or go to salvage yard?

Body Damage is Cool

Mine's been going for about 60,000 miles. Never anything to be found in the fluid. This may be the year it needs to go, but I'm trying to save up to couple the work with dual cases. I will likely have it rebuilt.
I remember ErikB had his gone through when his wife reported hearing marbles in it.

Mine went bad in the 80k range, but I think that was due driving it for a few hundred miles while the clutch bracket and cracked. AAAMCO said the syncro's were gone. Didn't really like AAAMCO, but I know they are all different.
Perfect world (and having more time) I would have gone with a rebuilt one from the guy that specializes in dual cases / toyota transmission (can't think of his name. Jay maybe, Marlin????). Could have pulled it off the truck myself, bought one from him, put it back on and even with shipping saved ALOT of money. Plus AAAMCO lost a bunch of the bolts and replaced them with odd sized ones.
Best of luck

The W56 tranny in my 4runner has over 250K on it. It whines and has a lot of play (has for years), but it keeps going and going and going...
240K in mine. i will put in a marlin HD clutch in it when i pull it to fix my leaking rear main seal. then i might actually run redline in it. a few shifter bushings, and it was fine. it does whine a little, but i am not complaining.
