just a musing, but I believe that the colorado and canyon pickups use an isuzu transfer case, right? Since the H3 is built off that platform, wouldn't it be interesting if it also was an Isuzu transfer case and we could have acess to its 4.03 low range gears. there is an article somewhere about the H3 on rockcrawler.com

I'd say it's more than a musing for the automatic guys. Now for the manuals that are built in casings the bigger gears just won't fit.

I think this will cause some stink, but then call and see what the transfer case costs.

New Isuzu tcase for an auto even with Merlins discount is just under 3 grand. I'd say you can expect the same or probably quite a bit more for the H3 case.

But again it'd be a real nice option for the auto guys.

Thats what I was thinking. But maybe we'll get lucky and a bunch more soccer moms will total some H3s trying to jump over statues.

From that website, it says it used a borg-warner transfer case. The isuzu cases are made by Isuzu correct? If thats the case, I doubt it will work. People look at me weird when I tell them theyre chevy is an isuzu...

The article does say that it has the 4L60-E transmission. I'm not sure if that's GM or Isuzu?

HOw interesting... That is the same trany I have sitting in the corner of my shop. The 4l60E is a chevy trany. It is just like the old 700r4 but it is total electric.

Later,
Daniel

I believe the transfer case in my vx is borg-warner.

I really haven't gone looking for a sticker though.

The 4L60-E is a GM auto tranny, the larger sister of the 4L30-E that was used in many Isuzu trucks. The VX does use a Borg Warner case, as do some of the other Isuzus over the years, although the VX case with the TOD is considerably different than other BW cases that were used. Just cause Isuzu used them, tho, doesn't mean they're made by Isuzu -- they're still GM and BW cases respectively. Now, that does, however, open up some possibilities on replacement parts -- but someone is gonna have to research the hell outta that one.
