well after an hour of searching i am calling to the public for help.

My 86 pick up bed looks like every other 86 bed in the northeast, not good. I had it off and decided that its prob not worth fixing.

So my alternatives are build a flat bed but i want to retain the use of my fiberglass cap for my snowboarding gear.

So i guess i need a new bed, hoever my gen body seems pretty hard to find. I can however get the 89 and up bed for cheap from a friend.

What i want is some pics of the 89 and up bed on the 86 bodystyle cab and frame

thanks for the help guys, all sugestions welcome

Build a flatbed that incorporates a toolbox (what i did). Now you have a place to store the snowboard gear or anything else that won't fit in the cab. You could build a flat bed that incorporates your cap but I bet it would look kind of ghetto. The problem with your idea is even if you get another old rustfree bed from out West it will start rusting just like your old one. Face it we are cursed with salt in the NE. Do the 89 beds hold up any better than the early ones? If they do will your cap fit the new bed? Also you will probably have to make new mounts and remove old ones to fit the later bed. Not sure about this part, but a guess.

I love my flatbed and don't regret chopping off that rusty POS bed one bit. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

the 89-95 bed basically bolts up to my frame and they do hold up a lot better as toyota used galvanized steel 89 and up.

Thanks for the reply.... i wonder if i could make like a tuono (sp?) cover for a custom flatbed?

It won't rust, but termites could be a problem!

You could say he packin a constant woody. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/notooth.gif" alt="" />

You got good woodworking skills...should be building boats.

You could always get a fiberglass bed from www.toyotafiberglass.com

No rust issues then <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

yea i looking into that.... but this is a LOW cost operation.... i can get a used bed of a 92 for 200....

but i am thinking about building a flat bed that i can put my cap on if i want to... just make a square frame with some sides... just not sure how much that will cost??

I have been looking and looking, but I can't find the pics. Someone either on here or off-road.com did this swap. Bolted right up and didn't even look that strange, from the pics.

Seen an '84-'89 long bed with tailgate in Trader.ca in Ontario last week. They were looking for 600 CDN I think.
