Locker in front or back #523986 11/09/04 09:58 PM

hey all
I have had a couple of lunch box lockers for a while now and drive my 94 4runner on a daily basis. If I were going to have one locker only, would it be better to have the front or rear locked up? Strictly from an off road point of view... forget the street part. I would like to have the locker in front and use manual locking hubs so cornering won't be so dicey on the street. Once I get the QUALITY VW BUG in operation again it will be locked front and back all-d-time. Opinions???
Thanks,
Aaron

REAR for sure, offroad-wise.

And FWIW, my front lockright isn't even noticable on the street in 2wd w/ the hubs locked or unlocked.

Rear - usually when you're climbing and obstacle or in a position where you need a locker the weight has shifted towards the rear tires - so that is where you will have the most traction and thus where the locker should be. Of course, there are always instances where that's not the case - but as a general rule of thumb the rear usually has the potential for the most traction.

Rear all the way. You also got to think that the front drivetrain on most vehicles is not as strong as the rear. A locker puts alot of stress on your drivetrain. Just something to think about.
