So ya, I snapped one of the 4 bolts from lower ball-joint to the steering knuckle. The rest of the bolt is of course stuck in the steering knuckle. What am I going to do?

Haynes manual says torque to 105ft/lbs, but that bolt snapped at 70ft/lbs...

The other 3s are still strongly torqued, can I get over this with only 3 bolts??? Damn Hanyes Manual... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/barf.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/barf.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/angry.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/angry.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/angry.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/evil.gif" alt="" />

You need a bolt removing tool...got 'em at Sears, looks like a weird backwards steep sided drill bit. You drill a pilot hole into the remnants of the bolt, screw this thing in, it bites, grabs the bolt, and it'll come right out. Since you have removed the head of the bolt it should come out pretty easy. If it doesn't come out right away, heat the area around the bolt, NOT the bolt itself.

And no, you shouln't drive around on 3. If it was OK to only have three then they would'a just put 3 on there. Know what I mean?

That torque sounds like for the ball joint castle nut.

While you are at it take a lug nut off each wheel, six are to many.JK <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> What size are the BJ bolts, about 8 mm? You are luckey that it got to 70 before it broke!!!

Yeah I think they are supposed to be about 30 ft-lbs for the 4 small nuts, the 105 ft-lbs is for the one big castle nut on the other end. I definely wouldn't run with only 3 of the studs for very long.

You might wanna replace all 4 cause they've been stretched so badly. Hate to see you get sideways. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/ignore.gif" alt="" />

105ft lbs?????????? thats quite alot for an 8mm bolt man 105 is for the steering knuckle bolts. not those 4 ball joint bolts. i think the castle nuts are only 80 or 90

IF ITS ONE THING I LEARNED IS NEVER GO BY A "Haynes" manual i think if half the world listend to this guy "HAYNES" we;; all be in trouble www.alldatadiy.com

Thanks.

Does those really work even when the rest of the threads (no, it's not the castle nut bolt) left in the steering knuckle are tightly torqued to like 70lbs?

Is it like something similar to this? Like the ones in seen in the black case?http://www6.sears.ca/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&catalogId=10001&categoryId=10114&langId=-1&rrc=1&productId=157982710&pe=11

(btw, I had to use a 17mm socket for the 4 bolts, not too sure if they are 8mm bolts.)
