Ya A small 4 dollar part just about ruined my engine today...I have an aftermarket air filter and it takes a plastic ring to get it a good seat on the carb. Well that broke today and made the air filter slide off. Well it slide off and lodged my acclerator cable to full when i was shiften and listen to a good song...I was full redline for about 3-6 seconds before i killed it. I fried some stuff baddd At 8 this morning it looked good cuz the new engine was coming in as well as the new tranny. I knew i could get em both to last till christmas, but now im not so sure. I fried a few bearings in the engine. Doesnt hurt till like 3000 RPM's but thankfully i didnt drop a rod. Cuz that would totally suck. Just venting a little bit. Anyone know how to nurse this till christmas? I compare my jeep to a terminal patient with a while left. Now i think that patient just caught the Black Death as well...Oh well such is the Jeep life.

Might be the piston pins that you hear. Any way what I would do is to change the oil right NOW! If it ain't cold where you are I'd go with straight 50w and not even worry about changing filters, and i'd keep the rpm's as low as I could.. I really don't see how you could have hurt the engine if you did not bend the valves. Those old 258 engines have great bottoms.
