some of you have prob. already read that i have a c223 and my plan is to build a truck around that, its originaly came from a 85 s15 i do have the bellhousing and the T5 tranny shouldent be to hard to find, but heres my question, i imagine it wouldent be too difficult to find a transfer case, but before I buy a truck to put all this in, should i get a 4x4? i'd love to have a 4x4 finnaly and that was my original intention, but i know the engine lacks hp, is a 4x4 worth giving up more ponies, is it a considerble amount of differance,if i do go 4x4 what type of gear ratios should i be looking at? im not sure if GM offered 4x4 as an option with the c223, but up untill 3 months ago i never knew GM offered a 2.2l diesel either. Thanks for reading and realy could use some sound advice!

I voted 4x4 because these engines were used in Troopers for several years and never came as anything but 4x4. Frankly, if you wanted to go 4x4, I'd suggest finding a Trooper diesel tranimission/tcase unit and go from there. It's not the fastest or the strongest motor you can put in something, but it's a fine small displacement powerplant with the simplicity and strengths of diesel power, not to mention cheaper fuel.

You can mate this motor up to a T5, as you stated. I'm sure that would make it an easier choice for you. How about putting it in a Jimmy or Blazer? You may already have the motor mounts and these were mostly 4X4, finding a manual tranny one shouldn't be a big issue. You have the bell housing to work with, so it will be quite easy. The oil pan will already fit the cross-member (tight fit - on mine, I have to remove the tranny to remove the engine). Some wiring will have to be done, and the speedo may be an issue, only if the Jimmy/Blazer is newer than 1990 (I think). This is basically what I did. Works for me.
