22RE PCV Valve Location? Got the hood open and ready to go! #528491 11/20/04 09:40 PM

I'm back, the wannabe mechanic guy. I just bought a Fram PCV valve to replace the old one on my 22RE and wanted to know the location of this fine piece. I assume it's the one sitting on top of the valve cover gasket(back half), but I'm not to sure. How do you remove it? Do I need to take the whole cover off or can it be pulled out?

Thank you for your time,
Sean

yes, i think you have the right one. Should have a hose that goes somewhere into the intake manifold. and yes, just pull it out. Might be tough to get out, but pull pull pull .. good luck.

Should have picked up the PCV grommet while you were at the parts store. LAtely it seems I cant pull a PCV without first destroying the grommet in the valve cover. If the PCV gives you trouble coming out, get some channel locks on the body of the valve and use like a screwdriver handle as a fulcrum to lever the valve out of the grommet/valve cover.

A good PCV valve will rattle when shaken. should be able to blow through the bottom but not the top.

I just take brake cleaner and clean mine till it rattles like a new one, then blow air through it to get all the gunk out of it, seems to work pretty good for me. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/notooth.gif" alt="" /> seems like everything I do is from the back-woods.
