Has ayone been using 0-30 synthetic oil in their 3.2 SOHC? I have had some loud lifter noise and wondered if this would help. In my previous post TARO answered that he had tried it with good results for 1000 miles.. Anyone else had success for a longer period of time? I tried the search function , but did'nt have much success...

That is the suggested cure. I have a 3.2 DOHC and have been running 5W-30 full synth for 75,000 miles no problems.
There have been more people that have had good luck with running the 0W-30 synth along with the seafoam treatment every now and again.

Got a 94 Troop that has the same problem. I have been running 5/30 Royal Purple full synth with about 25% lucas oil stabilizer, and the noise has vanished. I would imagine that you could use any full synth oil as the Lucas will mix with any oil used, even non synth. I also use the Lucas in the tranny/transfer as it uses 5/30 as well. Hope this works for ya.

I cant see that the lucas is going to help because it basically thickens the oil. From what I understand this noise comes from the clogged oil holes in the lifters. The lucas probably wouldnt help keep them clean. I would just run straight synthetic oil and before each oil change I would dump in a bottle of seafoam for a while (no more than 50 miles) to get those lifters clean. Ok, maybe not every oil change, maybe every 2nd or third oil change. I work at a parts store and I tell people to stay away from Lucas oil additives until they start to burn oil due to normal wear and tear (increased clearances and slightly lower oil pressures and burning oil). I never ran it im my rodeo just because it didnt burn oil. They do now make an oil additive that is synthetic. The lucas stuff would be good for really hot climates, high performance motors and is excellent for diesels. If you read the package, if you add 1 quart to 5 quarts of 10W-30, you get 10W-40, not what these motors want. Stick with a 30 wt oil (0W-30, 5W-30, 10W-30) and you should be fine. Im not an engine expert, but the stuff I've studied in school about designing bearings has taught me to stick with the manufacturers recommended oil. Its a long and fairly complicated process to design a bearing and then the oil that it requires. The thicker oil will stick to everything better, but it won't go where its supposed to as easily. Hope this makes sense, but I might be wrong, but it makes sense me. And seems rather reasonable enough. (oh yeah, im 21 on the 21st.. yeah, its my birthday) sorry, just thought I'd throw that in.

You're probably right about the lucas. I happen to have 150,000+ on the Troop. Burns a little oil, and I do live in Texas. So it does get pretty hot. I might think twice at the next oil change on that Lucas additive though, just to see if the 5/30 does the trick by itself. Thanks for the tip BTW Happy Birthday

I gave up on the 93 Troop with the valve ticking, the Mobil 1 0w30 worked for fifty thousand extra miles, but at 166,000 it wasn't worth putting all new rockers into to fix that valve rattle. All due to the "too small" oil port in the SOHC engine. This was probably a result of poor maintenance in its first 100K, I'll never know. This is what happened to me, Yes the Mobil 1 0W30 DOES WORK (Isuzu TSB). I think mine was already too far gone when I learned of the problem. The previous owner let some sludge build-up in the motor that added to the problem. Good Luck,

In my VX, I just tried using 5w-30 Mobil 1 synthetic. It worked great while the engine was cold and starting, but after long trips I could hear the piston tick.
I did not get it with the 10w-30 synthetic, so last night I switched back to 10-30.
