What is the front and rear axle ratios on a 1986 Isuzu Trooper turbo diesel? I know 4WD Chevy LUV/Isuzu PUP diesels had 4.10 ratio axles. I think I read somewhere that the Troopers have a 4.5- something ratio, but I am not quite sure. I wish I had a 1986 Isuzu Trooper factory workshop manual because then I would know and wouldn't have to ask here. I appreciate anyone's info. Thanks.

To the best of my knowledge, they had the same ratios as almost all Troopers with 4.56 gearing. Some gas burners with the large tire package ran with 4.77 gears, but I don't believe any diesels got that option.

ALL THE TURBO DSL TROOPERS CAME WITH 4.55 FRONT AND REAR OF COURSE , AND ALL THE GAS TROOPERS CAME WITH 4.55 EXCEPT THE ONES THAT HAD THE BIG TIRE OPTION AND THEY CAME WITH 4.77 IN 89 AND LATER , HOWEVER IN 1987 ONLY THE TURBO DSL TROOPER CAME WITH 4.11 GEARS SAME AS THE PICKUP TRUCK, THEY DID THIS TO SLOW THE ENG SPEED DOWN AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THIS WAS THE ONLY YEAR THE TROOPER EVER CAME WITH ANYTHING TALLER THAN THE 4.55 GEARS JERRY

I would have to say that is a good question. Most Trooper turbo diesels I see have the circular headlights and are the 1986 year model. But, in 1987 Isuzu changed to square headlights for the Trooper and if you were to see a 1987 Trooper turbo diesel I would beleive you would notice the headlights. I also have always wondered if Isuzu sold the Trooper with a turbo diesel in 1987. In my opinion I think they did but when compared to a 1986 model, a 1987 Trooper turbo diesel is extremely rare. I actually wish Isuzu would have had the C223 diesel available in 1984 for the first year Isuzu Trooper, instead of just the pickups. Instead of just the 1.9 liter gas engine, they would have had the 2.2 liter diesel engine as another choice. I really think that would have been genius, but what ya gonna do.

When I bought my '87 gas new in August 1987 from a neighboring town, my Father-in-law asked why I didn't buy the diesel. I told him I wasn't given that option and didn't even know about it. I noticed it in the sales brochure and that was it. In addition there were no diesels on the lot of this dealer who was big enough to have many Troopers in stock back when they were selling like hot cakes and my local dealer had _none_ on his lot(hence the trip to the neighboring town).

Anyways, my FIL asked because a friend of his at work had bought a diesel and liked it. I always assumed that this friend bought not long before me, so therefore he would have got an '87 diesel. There is the possibility I could be wrong and this friend bought a little earlier than I presume and got the last of the '86 diesels.

Looking back on my experience, I have reached the conculsion that there were no diesels to sell in August 1987 and no one could order one. There were however, a few available earlier in the model year and my FIL's friend got one. I doubt this little data point of mine is much help but makes a nice story anyways.

IF YOU SHOULD FIND AN 87 T DSL IT WOULD BE A VERY RARE VEH AS THEY ONLY BROUGHT IN LESS THAN 200 UNITS TOTAL FOR THE TROOPER
2 DR DELUX 5SPD
4 DR DELUX 5SPD

4 DR DELUX LS 5SPD VERY RARE IN THE LS. MODELS
HOWEVER I DID HAVE ON IN EARLY 87 AND IT GOT SOLD TO A DLR IN CHAROLLOTE N.C. AND I NEVER SAW IT AGAIN JERRY

Out of all the Japanese auto makers I know Isuzu the best. I kinda thought the 1987 model Isuzu Trooper diesel would be a rare find. I know in my time of dealing with vehicles every turbo diesel Isuzu vehicle I have come across is always a 1986 model year. Jerry, do you know how many Isuzu PUP turbo diesels were sold for the 1987 model year and also would you know how many non-turbo diesel PUPs were sold in the same year?

TO MY KNOWLEDGE THERE WERE NO TURBO DSLS PICKUPS IN 87 AT ALL AND ONLY 200 OR SO NON TURB PICKUPS AND MOST ALL WERE THE STRIPPED Q16 MODELS AND CAME IN WHITE AND 90 % OF THOSE WENT TO DLRS IN FLA, NONE ON THE WEST COST THAT WE KNEW OF AND MOST OF THESE 200 WENT TO FLEET BUYERS, THE DAYS OF OUR POOR LITTLE DSLS WERE GONE IN THE U.S. JERRY
