Looking at a '98 SR5, TRD, 84K miles. It has a couple of problems I'll have to get fixed if I buy. When I try to engage the rear diff, the indicator light blinks, but never stays on. I read the owners manual and followed the instructions there on how to engage, I had it in 4L. The manual says that it is not engaged unless the light quits blinking. Any ideas what coud be wrong, and how expensive to fix? Too many possiblilities to list? Thanks. Things have to line up and engage back there and there is also the computer intervention. I learned to simply trust the truck, engage it and go for it. It eventually engages when it's actually needed - when one of the back wheels start spinning or a wheel lifts over bad bedrock stairs. With only the key in the switch and not the engine running, keep one person outside of the truck and press the lock button. If you hear it lock, it may work! I have this problem with my! May have found my truck!
