Getting the Wheeling Fever
Searched here and on , but didn't find specific answers. I got 2" recessed led's for the new winch bumper and , of course, the stock flasher relay doesn't get along with them. As I understand I have 2 options.
1)wire resistors in parallel w/ the led's to create a bit more draw on the relay. problem- I have no idea which resistors I would need.
2)Get a relay compatible with led's. One with the same connectors as stock would be preferred. "heavy-duty" realays were referred to by some, but that's not very specific. Also mentioned were electronic as opposed to mechanical(bi-metal) flasher relays which don't care what the current draw is, and again a toyota compatible unit would be preferred.

Anybody been here before with specific info? Thanks all for the help!

If you want to go the resistor route, go down to radio shack and grab a potentiometer and wire it in there. A potentiometer is basically a variable resistor.

GEt it so it blinks the rate you want, take a multi-meter and measure the resistance, and hard wire the appropraite-sized resistor(s) in there.

You'll have to shoot through the old bulbs with a multimeter to see how many ohms of resistance they have. Get an equivalent resistor but keep in mind it has to dissapate a great deal of heat energy, I smoked a little 1 watt res. so you better look for a higher wattage one. I eventually found some bulbs to use so I abandoned the resistor idea. The flasher is some goofy toyota only crap so I have no idea where to get an electronic or heavy duty one, sorry I wish I knew.

You can use an old style 2 terminal flasher in it's place, but for your application it wouldn't work either.
You could increase current draw by replacing the incandescent bulbs in the rear turn signals with higher wattage ones (halogen for instance).

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Thanks guys, great ideas-
-so for the resistors I should be able to ask for a wattage & resistance equal to that of the bulb I've replaced? Makes sense.
I will probably get the info and let the radio shed guy figure it out.
I may try replacing my flasher relay w/ a new one (may be newer technology) because mine is original as far as I know (it's louder than sin when flashing).
I'm painting the bumper tonight and the signals are all thats left to do. I hope the old bellvue is ready for a workout! I'll try and post pics when it's done. I know there aren't many upright warns on the front of mini trucks, and custom is your only choice. Thanks-

edit: lets try this....
