alright guys i am writting a "persuasive research paper" and i'd lke to base it on my jeep in some way. now with that thought that my jeep IS currently SUA i decided that doing it on SUA Vs. SOA. and start a project on my own jeep showin the process and the difference in articulation between the two systems as my project part. but i do need help in finding research on this topic. i have tried and seam to only come up with projects involving SOA non of its technical detail that will be needed in the 6-10 pg paper. so much help would be appriciated smile if you need more info just ask if i left something out, again just ask and you shall recieve. btw i painted my bumper today no longer gray its black like my jeep now

the performance, how it works- not the installation but the weight distribution aspects of it. like what are the technical differences between the two that can cause such a large difference in articualation even if they use they same springs. but i need research articles to base my research on. im not allowed to just take what any old "joe"says they have to have some kind expertise in the field of study

as far as i know, no one has ever done serios reserch for the advantages. usually the SOA's are all done by a bunch of guys who understand the suspension and know how to weld.

not trying to crush your idea or anything, but I think your topic, for the purposes of writing a persuasive research paper, is a bit difficult. The variables are very numerous, rock crawling? road manners? how much HP and torque? which springs? what axles? your professor, who im guessing is an english professor, probably won't get it. in addition, it will be difficult to fit it into the format of a persuasive argument. (I had a buddy in college who was into ricers, and he wrote a very nice paper on the honda v-tec (OK, stop giggling) and it bombed horribly, because the prof had no clue what he was talking about)
for the sake of your grades, my advice is that there an abundance of topics which can guarantee a B if you write bad and an A if you write good (death penalty , marijuana legalization, drinking age, smoking in public, Public funding of statdiums and arenas for private sports teams, street sweeping parking tickets (i really hate those) I would skip the war in Iraq if you are for it,
legal prostitution)
Too bad you cant use a BigJim RANT (those are quite persuasive, and a little scary!!!

To utilize the proper scientific method for researching the benifits to SOA conversion you will need 2 same jeeps. Perform the modification on one then run sveral controlled tests for performance with both the control and modified vehicle. Analyse them on the same trails and record max articulation from a fixed reference point, number of hangups on rocks, turning radius, etc using the same driver. It won't be the most accurate or precise study ever done but should stand the scrutiny of a professor of english depending on the writing skills.

Josh,

I think that was good advice for Reign . . . even if this would be for an automotive type class. Keep it simple, Reign.

I guess, on second thought, it's none of my business to shoot your idea down, sorry if I came across as an ass!
I was just thinking about my approach to college -- blow it off until its due, then write like crazy for a B!!
good luck

during 101 i too was thinking of doing my reserch paper on my jeep. luckily my prof. had been around a while, and cared a bit about the students so she said absolutly no papers on cars. a paper on a car is not going to be reserch, its going to be a review. i have never seen a 3 page paper on stress analisys on the fram from going spring over, or data on the effects on leaf springs from going past there plastic deformation limits. these things don't get reserched becuase there is little to reserch about. you can find peoples opinions and what they have done, but never scientific data on the finished product. jstritec is right it is alot of work and will not come out very well if you pick your car as your subject. my prof. told me to stop thinking about my car and think of somthing i knew absolutly nothing about.
