The February issue of Four Wheeler magazine features an article, on pages 46 & 47, where they took five pre-production Hummer H3s out on a Rubicon joyride.
I grumbled as I read that the new H3 will most likely come with 33-inch tires as standard equipmentà and I mumbled something unpleasant when I saw that it will feature the venerable GM inline 5 cylinder engine, and 4L60-E transmission, from the TrailBlazer/Envoy/Ascenderà
But then I saw something that REALLY got my attention: Listed in the Specifications side bar - there it was - as plain as dayà
ôTransfer Case: Isuzu D-Max part time two-speedö
Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa?
And on page 18 thereÆs another mention of the H3, wherein is says that there will be an optional 4.0:1 Borg Warner t-case.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmà
I started doing a little thinkingà
The 4L60-E was used in some of our Isuzus, right? And the TOD system in the VXs & Troopers was a Borg Warner t-case, right? And many Isuzu t-cases can be interchanged/swapped for the TOD case, right?
SOà Is it just me, or is it possible that the new H3Æs 4.0:1 Borg Warner t-case will bolt-up to just about ANY Isuzu automatic transmission?
Oh yeah, and another thingà Does this mean that weÆll have to welcome the future Hummer H3 folk as honorary Isuzu owners?
Cheers! Smiley
Six Isuzus, so far... still have three of them.

I'm not trying to burst your bubble, really! http://www.4x4wire.com/forums/showf...;oldertype=&bodyprev=#Post618038We had a pretty good discussion about this and determined that even if you could find a case, how much would it cost? Remember the word HUMMER is involved. And we are still asumming that it will bolt up. 4:1 would be great, but 3.07:1 is a lot cheaper than 3000 bones (Just guessing at a price for the H3 case) and, not everyone has the automatic where thay can just swap cases. It could be an option for those that are more well endowed in the wallet area, but for the most part I'd say Teras are a better deal.

Close...
The tranny you refer to is a 4L30-E, the less desireable, not as stout tranny as the 60, but nonetheless a good unit.

Yep, Keith is right. The 4L60E is the tranny my Tahoe has, so it is probably a little heavier duty than the 4L30E, but I'm no expert.

Why in the world are they putting inline-5s in hummers? My buddy down the street has a hummer with a diesel in it and it Growls, not puuurrrsss but GROWLS. Mean, low and violent engine. I love that hummer.
Anyway, that magazine, Four Wheeler, featured a Heep a few months back that had an Isuzu Dana 44 swapped in. They said in the captions that "he swapped it into the jeep from an Isuzu in a junkyard that really didnt need it. " Thats the only jeep i have pinned to my wall. -J

Another positive (well at least for us guys that like driving things with that 3rd pedal on the left) I read somewhere's that they are available with an Aisin built 5 speed also. (That is unless they changed that since.
And BTW: has anybody ever heard ANY THING about the new Crosslander? They just seemed to keep pushing up the date and pushing up the date and now no one has heard anything about them. HAve fun, Dave
A Wise man once said, Wherever you go........there you are Bone stock 90 Trooper 2.6, 5 speed. With the aerodynamics of a brick, and the power to match. 2000 Chevy Tracker, also bone stock, well, at least until it's paid off!!!
