I have a chance to get a new alt before the 2.8 comes out and the 3.4 goes in so which alt am i going to use, the Camaro alt or the trooper alt?

You'll be using all the accessories off the old 2.8. Which would include the alternator, intake and exhaust, smog pump, power steering pump, A/C compressor (if so equipped), brackets, flywheel, oil filter adapter, etc etc etc.

Couldn't tell you offhand whether the Camaro used the same alternator, I suppose it's possible but my 3.4 had the accessories already stripped off it so couldn't say for sure. Best to just stick with the 2.8 alt (which, BTW, should be exactly the same as one for an S-10 2.8).
