I would like to second bottomfeeder you've gotta come on a az crew trip IF YOU DON'T WE WILL FIND YOU AND MAKE YOU!!! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> 31's will fit fine on stock wheels and lift but you will find with stock wheels when you go full flex in the rear they will rub a bit aftermarket wheels with more pos offset will correct this.

heres my old 88 on 31's and stocks [Linked Image]

And I'll be the second from AZ to say hello. I have a pair of add-a-leafs you can have for nothing if you want them. I took them off one of my '87's after deciding that its trail days were over. You might need new center bolts for them, but those are easy to come by; inspect the six places where the springs and shackles connect to make sure you don't want to replace them at the same time as adding the leafs. Then you can crank the torsion bars in the front and trim the bump stops a touch and be all set. Then you will have to get the bigger tires because yours will look so small!

Private Message me with your phone number and I'll get back to you.

Thanks to all the AZ guys who responded and every body else too! would love to get together for a trip! think it would be great to see a string of Montero,s for a change
when I go with my buds from work I'm always staring at the grill or bumper of a jeep! I will keep a eye on the AZ crews post to see what's going on,

Welcome to Mitsu-land. Looking forward to seeing you out on a trail soon.

One observation I will add concerns tires. I started out with stock tires, which got old real fast. I then upgraded to 31s. You'd be surprised how quickly they wore out their welcome. While I had the 31s I cranked the torsion bar and lifted the rear quarter with upgraded springs (I have a 91 4-door).

At that point I had to have 33s. Thus I ditched the 31s and bought a set of 33x12.5 and 4 new wheels to go along with them. Excellent upgrade.

So, my advice would be to skip the 31s all together. Lift your front and back and then invest in a set of 33x12.5 MTs and new wheels. If you plan to wheel this thing here in the desert you'll never regret it.

Good luck.

Thanks,
I have thought about 32's or 33's but am concerned about that 2.6 working a little to hard to roll them ! it seems to run great but I have to have a tail wind to
do 70 mph even with the 30 x9.50's I have now! plus I always seem to be on a budget (two daughters up at NAU)
always seems to be abundence of 31x10.50 take offs sombody is parting with (32 or33's very tempting).I don't have a need for speed but with so many trails in the Florence area being able to maintain the posted speed limit is nice since I live in Peoria.
were supposed to due Walnut canyon 1/22/05 with my buds from work but they are worried about water levels now so they may do Woodpecker but from what I have heard seems
a little challenging for a(almost )newbie in a bone stock 85 montero !
