Has anyone fixed a empty inclometer before ...is it alcohol in them or what liquid that won't freeze?

First of all, I want to welcome you to the best Mitsubishi 4x4 (Montero, Raider, Montero Sport, Pick-Up) forum on the Net (our Aussie buddies may want to contest that) <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />.

You can find the answer (full rebuild article) to that along with a number of other questions you may be asking in the Mitsu Section's Tech Articles/Write-ups.

In addition to searching the Tech Forums, the Technical Archives are another source of good information. If you'd like any help with the search feature, just let either Phil, DougH, or myself know.

Roll Me Over
Clear mineral oil which can be purchased at Wal-Mart. Do not use glycerin.

I used baby oil in mine. When it all leaked out again, now I can't smell the mildewed carpet anymore! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

pmontero and dieselguy,

When you seal up the unit, a trick I used last time I filled mine was to cut a piece of plastic so that it just fits inside the diameter of the back cover of the inclinometer. I used a Ruth's Chicken Salad lid; cut it down to approximate size and trim, trim, trimmed. I then RTV'ed the whole thing in so that flimsy little rear cover was total sealed.

It hasn't leaked down yet. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Oh, yeah - I used mineral oil as well and injected it with a veteranary syringe, but a turkey baster will work too.

87 Montero, bought new, by me -

with awesome audio.

I just filled the entire rear section with sealant. Then I filled the seams too. Then I filled it with mineral oil and capped the hole with more sealant. I used GM's new grey RTV since it resists oil better than anything else I have ever seen.

I drained the last of the old oil out of mine and didn't bother refilling it. It bounces around a bit more than it used to but the inclinometer is (IMO) a bit of a gimmick anyway.

today i removed the inclinometer cluster from my raider. I did this to install two extra light bulbs and to grind guage faceplates edge down. This allows a lot more illumination for the volt and pressure guages.

my question is this. The inclinometer seemed to be empty of fluid. When i tilted the guage i never saw an air bubble. How do i know if it has fluid in it? Will there be an air bubble when tilted? How does it operate when full of fluid?

The guage seems very jerky all the time. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

...by the way...my girlfriend pointed out that everyone has mispelled inclinomter!
