I had a bad accident (completly independent of the 4Runner) which left me in a wheel chair for the last 2 months or so. The 4Runner was not touched while I was down but on the last trip I made in before the accident, the cat converter exploded on me leaving me w/ hardly any power, esp up hills.
Today I had to jump start the vechile because it was completly dead. I let it run for 1/2 hour and drove it about 10 miles into town to replace the catalytic converter. When I turned off the vehicle, it wouldn't start again. I doensn't crank or even click when trying to start it.
I went back over to check on some fuses and battery terminals but my flash light was out and couldn't find my fuse pullers, and my box of tools were gone (older brother took them out some time while I was down) so I couldn't really do anything. I tried to jump it again and it still wouldn't crank or click.
Does anyone have any ideas? What specific fuse to check? Could it be the starter?
Thanks for any help.

Sid

How old is the battery? Try another one; of course check your fuses and your fusible link (corrode/broken); clean the battery terminals. Call your brother and make him bring your stuff back.

He siphon off your gas while he was at it?

Good to see you back in the saddle again.

Body Damage is Cool
I'd check the fuses and the condition of wires going to the starter and make sure the ends aren't corroded. Where you attaching the negative wire to when you were trying to jumpstart it? I've found the engine itself, and not the battery to be the best place.

I'm guilty of attaching the ends to the battery itself and not on the engine.
I called the repair shop today and they said it was an electrical problem between the starter relay and the starter, and it was something they did not want to fool with. If in fact this is the problem, then it shouldn't be to hard to trace back from the starter, should it?

Damn, before this, I just got done hunting down a fried ground wire behind the gauges. I hate wiring problems.

You can yank the starter and have the parts store bench check it, just to rule it out, if the wiring isn't glaringly damaged when you pull it.

Might hit the case screws with some PB Blaster, and pop it open to see if the starter contacts are worn while you have it out.

So i'll yank the starter, bench check it and probably replace the contacts while I'm in there.
The guy at the garage now says its in the ignition wire.
Anyways, I'll tear into it and sees whats I got, hopefully not a complete mess.
