Just wondering how many people from the board are planning on hitting up EJS this year...it would be cool to all meet up and wheel/party together. If I can get my 3a upgrades done by then, I'm down for the 17 hour drive...yes, in the 3a. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Most people who want to four wheel in Moab don't go during the Easter Jeep Safari --- too many people in trail ride groups. It seems that most people go to Moab's EJS to party, watch others destroy their rigs on tough obstacles, and/or to see new products on display first-hand. Great place to go to see some of the best built rigs in USA. If you go, book your hotel or camping area in-advance (several months in advance).

Fred,
I used to live in Salt Lake, and hit up Moab a few times, but that was years ago. It's been years since I've been there, and I hear what you're saying about the trails being congested, but I would like to see the spectactle anyway. Although, driving 17 hours to be on clogged up trails does sort of defeat the purpose...but it's kinda like Sturgis, I'd love to see it.

Damon,
I understand your addiction . . . you should do it! Go to EJS, but keep out of trouble. A lot of trouble makers reported in recent years. You want to make sure your rig meets Utah's highway requirements, especially east of Moab. The way things are going politically in Moab, the EJS may not continue very many more years. Many local residents want to close Moab trails to four wheelers. I think they are foolish and don't understand just how many dollars four wheelers pump into their local economy. They prefer the bicycle & rope climbing groups that sleep in cars parked at the City Market's parking lot? These groups can't afford their morning latte, let alone support all the new restaurants and motels built in Moab in the last couple of years!

I've been myself many times, although none recently. I can't stand the abundance of idiots who have no concern for ethical four wheeling these days. All they care about is seeing carnage no matter if the vehicle is torn up or the trail in the process. These days we usually go on Memorial Day and then once more in early October.

Realistically, as much as I'd love to see all of EJS, the more I've been thinking about it, I just don't get enough free time off in a year to make more than one trip, so I better go when no one's there.
So...to change the topic a little, it would still be nice to get some guys from the wire and set a date in the early fall maybe. Maybe in a few months I'll mention it to Sunder and see if we can get a head count for nearby members?

I think mid-May and September is the best time to do Moab trails . . . the weather conditions are perfect.

It's hard to believe but, coming from someone whose a bit burned out on "Moab", I still recomend going to see the insanity of EJS. It's been since 01 since I've been to a Safari, but waaaay back then... It was reasonable to get in plenty of good wheeling if you timed it right and looked at the EJS newspapers for the skinny on what big group will be where and when. IF you get up with the chickens and hit trailheads just as the sun is coming up, you will most likely have only a few hardcores out with you. But if you party and sleep in only to hit trails at 9-10-11 am you will be met with crowds, lines and morons.
I've done close to 20 Moab trips since 1988 95% of which were in May and October/November and with a group of 4-10 rigs. I thought those were just as fun as Safari's or moreso.
Safari is worth doing at least once, just hanging out at Dump Bump or Potato Salad hill (late afternoons on a warm day)are worth the drive. (Not short wheelbase friendly)
