clutch adjustment question #551621 01/13/05 04:44 AM

I lifted my '02 2.7 taco about a year ago, and ever since, my clutch pedal has never felt the same. Now it's gotten to the point where I barely have to depress the pedal for it to go into gear, and when I come off a stop, the pedal is practically all the way out before the clutch catches. Has anyone ever experienced this or know a way I can adjust the clutch back to "stock" position?. It dosen't seem like it's burned cause there is no slipping whatsoever. Help would be appreciated.

They backing in the adjustment rod on the pedal linkage. I adjusted mine out the get the pedal to engage higher. You probably want to do the opposite. Good luck

Well, I looked under there and I see the rod that goes through the firewall has about 4 threads showing. The silver thing between the rod and clutch pedal looks pretty sensitive to mess with. couldnt get the rod to turn. At the slave cylinder, theres nothing there to adjust. Man, this sucks. can't <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> get an answer..

I am not sure about the Tacoma, but can describe the adjustment for a 95 T100 which should be similar. On the T100, there is a threaded clevis that has a pin which connects the Master Cyl operating rod to the peddle arm. On mine, a 14mm wrench holds the hex at the back of the clevis and a 12mm wrench loosens the locking nut. Once the locking nut is loose, turn the operating rod counter clock wise to thread it further into the connecting clevis. When a bit of free play is felt in the peddle travel, retighten the locking nut.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,
Terry

Crow's description is just about the same on a Taco. Look for the that rod the goes from the pedal into the firewall. Should be about 1/4 diameter and 4-5 inches long. You'll see where it screws into the pedal linkage. There will be a locking nut there. I believe it's 14mm. Loosen that lock nut about 4-5 turns and twist the rod counter clockwise til the nut stop the rod from turning. This will screw the rod into the pedal linkage and cause the pedal to engage the clutch further down.

Thanks guys, I appreciate it. Loosened and turned the rod. fanagled with it till i got it so it disengages half way down. It's weird though why this happened in the first place. I just keep thinking that theres not much clutch left tough. only have 46k miles. Has aybody experienced worn clutch immediatly after a lift and tires?
