I'll post a ratio comparison chart this afternoon when I get the chance.

Basically, 33's would be the mo-bettah way to go with a 4-banger IMHO. Your RPM's would be higher than you are now w/31's and 4.625 diffs. 35's and 5.29's would have you doing a little lower RPM's than you are now with your 31's.

I might still consider 35's (but doubtful), though, because I have the 2.85 t-case gearing. Will suck worse on the highway, but should be fine on the trail.

Going from 235-75R15's and 4.625 to 33's and 5.29's you would be turning just about the same RPMs for the same road speed. So, these would return you to the same overall gearing as stock.

That is a breakthrough indead, and a requirement for 35s.

Once again Lloyd.... this is not necessarily true. There are SEVERAL ways to deal with this.

When I ordered my set from Aki almost a year ago, he said at the time that my set and his set (8" front) were produced after the order. I was surprised that Mitsubishi Japan actually had their gear producer cut two sets for Aki and I. Apparently, they will be even more willing to make gears for Frank, who will probably be selling many sets. My gears are still sitting under the bench. My truck hasn't been running for several months now, so I wasn't too worried about installing them right away. Especially now that I may replace the pickup with a V6 SWB. Too bad I didn't wait until now to buy them, could've saved a little money... Oh well, at the time, I thought I was getting one of the last sets in existance! Good luck with your venture, Frank! I may have to order another set down the road...

I think I will be running a 34" tire with mine. I would like to leave myself with a slight gearing advantage over stock, to compensate for increased weight and rolling resistance. A 295/75R16 or a 265/85R16 should be about right depending on how wide will fit. I'll be trying to minimize body lift by trimming fenders and perfecting the backspacing.

For those curious, go to

http://www.fivethirty.com/misc/gears-tires-rpm-mph-conversions.xls

and download or run the spreadsheet I've put together. Keep in mind that I'm not an expert on this, this info is just what was passed on to me.

For those without the ability to run Excel spreadsheets:

(transmission X diff X t-case X 336 X MPH) / Tires (inches) = RPM

Transmission gears
First: 3.918
Second: 2.261
Third: 1.395
Fourth: 1.000
Fifth: 0.829
Reverse: 3.925

Diff gears
4.625
4.88
5.29

T-case gears
1.925
2.850
1.000 (to get RPM for 2WD or 4-HI)

So with 5.29's 33's and a 5spd your looking at 3100 RPM's to run 70mph . Somthing to think about when I get a stronger engine or Turbo.

I didn't see an equation which factored-in that you'd be doing that while shooting video.

Am I reading that correctly? NOT available for a GenII 3.0 manual transmission?

I dont think they are available for any of the high pinion 8 inch front axles. That would be all genII's with either a 3.5 or a 3.0 manual.
