Well my Tcase with the terra kit in it is a mess. The guy just told me I need

Output shaft
Seal kit
Back half of case
Forks (2)
Syncro assembly.
Bearings
speedo sensor gear

I can't say I'm happy about this.

Anyone else have trouble with there tcase or just me?

What preceded the failure, Rick... I'm surprised, since there have been few other failures reported.

Any chance you can get a picture of the parts in question? This has gotta be related to this thread: http://www.4x4wire.com/forums/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=UBB86&Number=653978 and I still have difficulty fathoming that much damage in the relatively small tailshaft compartment, or how that damage could easily move forward into the transmission mainshaft... how many miles did you have between noticing some failure and getting it fixed?

Regardless, your cheapest option is probably obtaining a used t-case from another truck and salvaging the good parts from that to yours (or vice versa).

Ask anyone who's been to my garage and seen the wall of MUA's and parts i have accumlated! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />

failure #1: 12hours in my cross country drive on the way to moab zuzoo, tcase drain plug fell out, lost all lubrication and welded the 4wd gear to the mainshaft at 70mph... came to a skidding stop, pucker factor very high.

failure #2: chewed up the anti-rattle gear on the front output cluster which throughly trashed the idler gear as well and sent little chuncks of metal all throughout.

failure #3: broke the snap ring holding in the idler gear, which caused it to wobble, trashed the idler gear. pieces got caught in the shift rails causing the tcase to stick in gear.

failure #4: only a matter of time i'm sure!

I attribute most of my troubles due to excessive driveline vibration from the extreme lift i had (that and daily driving at interstate speeds in a truck of my size). Since then i've changed over to a CV driveshaft and cured these problems, i haven't had another big time failure... yet! of course, i'm also keeping the highway miles off since i've aquired a daily driver.

yes this is the extention of that post. I can take pictures of the old parts once I get the truck back. I might have put 100 miles on it before I could get it into the shop.

I replaced the speedo gear on sat and it only lasted 6 miles, that's when I decided I needed to get it into the shop. I also replace the oil in it at that time the old (two weeks) stuff looked like glitter oil.

After this I get to replace the rear axle bearing/seals.

Fun fun

there is a t-case from a 98 Passport, 88k, $65 from autonetworkinc.com in Fairmont, IN. there are also a number of them under $200 in your region listed on car-part.com.

good luck.

Thanks for the input guys.

The bill is gona be about $1200, it would be almost that much even if I get a used Tcase. Due to the swap of parts and the other stuff I would need. I want to keep my terra gears so that's the price I pay.

Labor is $600 plus parts. Oh I forgot I need a new case to.

Ok the guy is telling there is a problem with the new case half (back half). He says there is an early version and a late version.

Is this guy full of it or what

Help!

Early in relation to what? Early/late 1998? Or early/late 1990/1998?
