just looking for some advice on what to do with my 33" spare for my samurai. Will the rear door be strong enough to support the weight or should I go with an aftermarket tire carrier? Also being the fabricator that I am I was thinking that if I do go with some alternative way of mounting the tire should I go with a swing away style carrier or build a rear stinger style carrier like at http://www.spydercustoms.com/index2.html let me know what you think.

the rear stinger style looks pretty cool but in my opinion it`s alot of unecessary weight in the rear. not too familiar with the zuks rear gate but if it`s not strong enough i`d probably recommend going with a swing out type. if you plan on fabbing your own swing out design, check out rockstomper`s website. they`ve got a pretty solid bearing type hinge that can handle the weight of your 33 and then some! i`ve seen a few rigs using them carrying 35`s-38`s.i`m sure more places carry them but don`t know who. my $.02.

good luck.

The tailgate will only support the weight for a few tough trails before it tears the sheet metal and drops your tire in the trail. I have used swing away and swing up tire carriers on my zook and there is one thing I have learned that covers them both. If you do any difficult trails, you need to make sure any carrier that you use attaches to the cage as well as the bumper. If it only connects to to the bumper it will shake using the bumper as a pivot. I put in an additional cross bar that connects from left to right between the rear uprights (Full Cage). It sits right at the same height as the top of the tailgate. I then have a bracket that come of of the tire carrier to connect to the cross bar. It works well and keeps the tire (33/12.50) from doing the hippy-hippy-shake.

My first one was a bit of overkill...

But I now run a bumper and tire carrier from Shrockworks.
