Need a Spot
Installing a newer version of the 2.3 4ZD1 engine into my '92 pickup. The newer style head has not been drilled and tapped for the earlier EGR manifold that screws into the head at the exhaust ports. We've drilled it out and are now ready to tap the threads. A 1/2 inch tap is too small. Does anyone know the proper size? Appears to be 20 threads per inch and is tapered (ie, pipe threads)

Appears to be a 14mm X 1.25 thread pitch. Think that is the same as the spark plugs. Oh yeah, it's not a tapered thread.

Just for future reference, that is actually called the AIR rail. And yes, you are correct, the thread x pitch is the same as the spark plugs.

That got me thinking... what is the thread size of the EGR tube where it connects to the EGR valve? Looks like somewhere around 19mm.

Tad, I think it is in the 22mm range.

I'm recalling that it was a 22m socket, with smaller threads.

Hazy recollection at best, tho.

Just got done fighting mine <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shiner.gif" alt="" /> and it took a 22mm wrench to get it off.
