Need a Spot
Greetings, I want to replace the old mech pump with an electric model. ('92, 2.3L, everything original)

Can I simply leave the return fuel line off at the old mechanical fuel pump to allow the system to "vent" and not create a vacuum? Leave the return line on the old pump which will be disabled? (removed the push rod between cam and pump)

Thanks, mph9111

I don't know the 2.3 very well, but just generally, deadheading an electric fuel pump isn't a great idea... it is hard on the pump.

I presume you're going to disable the old fuel pump (pull the drive rod?), and pump through the stock fuel pressure regulator. If that's the case, there's no need to disconnect the old return line -- just let the fuel pressure regulator divert any 'extra' unneeded fuel through the return back to the fuel tank.

Randii, OK that sounds good. Just run it through the fuel press regulator and let it go correct? The new pump is supposed to be in the 7 to 9 psi range.
Thanks, mph9111

That should work, but the best way to know for sure would be to use a pressure guage to make sure you're not over- or under-pressurizing the system.
