Getting the Wheeling Fever
|
Well, I just wanted to let everyone know that Isuzu was represented at Last weekends rockcrawling event at Katemcy Rocks in central Texas ( Katemcy Rocks ). I was the one and ONLY Isuzu guy there. The Trooper did fairly well, and was actually able to keep up in the open diff. class group. The Trooper crawled where even some stock jeeps had troubles. A locker would have been a nice addition, but hopefully that will come soon, if we can get Powertrax going. I have a small lift Calmini torsions cranked, ball joint flip up front and add-a-leafs and shackles in rear for approximately 2.5" lift. 32X11.5 inch mud rovers help also. I did get a small amount of minor body damage (passenger lower rocker panel) from off-camber crawling. After this trip, it is obvious that rock bars are a nessesity. At one point, I had to pass a jeep on the trail with a broken axle and people were staring at me saying, "What the hell is that doing out here?". Isuzu was represented.

Are you in TX? I've been wanting to go out to K-Rock, but just haven't had the time. What else can you tell me about it?

Glad you were able to represent Isuzu here in Texas. I've heard that place is pretty serious, and that body damage is imminent. You been to Barnwell (BMRA) in Gilmer, TX?
And I guess you could have answered their question by saying, "Driving around your broken Jeep."

How much lift did you get with the 919s? How is the ride?

I live in Dallas. I had a friend meet me there from SA. He said it was a bout a 2 hr drive. They have all sorts of difficulty levels. I started with a group which was perfect. The group leader spotted everybody on difficult parts of the trail. If you saw something you didn't want to try then there was always a way around an obstacle. I recommend rock bars, but open diffs can make it arond fine. I also recommend at leats a 2.5 lift and good beefy tires, that where I got most of the stock jeeps. the trooper has a pretty low stock gear box and that helps as well. Katemcy is lots of granite boulders and small creeks to drive through. It seems small (only 800 acres) but that is large enough tokeep you busy for a good weekend. There were a lot of really hardcore custom built rigs. I will be going back.
I have also been to Barnwell in Gilmer. Much larger park at about 1600 acres, and the trails there are marked. Barnwell is sand and mud with a few rocky ledges. I would say there is more difficult climbing at Katemcy. Katemcy is open granite boulders and cliffs.
Isuzu representin!
