I wish I had a picture but the camera died. First I disconnected the battery and took it out of the vechile. I knew I had a wiring problem and the battery is completly dead. My step dad was supposed to bring over a multimeter to start diagnosing the problem. He forgot it but we took a look at it anyways. What we found when we took off the heat sheild in the pass side fender to get a better look at the starter was the wiring that was wrapped in heat protectant tape had been resting on the header. Everything was toast. There were about 12 wires in that casing. After stripping all the crap off the wires, we found about 5" of wire on all the wires were without any rubber insulation and most of the wires just fell apart. The question is what do I do now. We found good wire on both side and don't have any reason to beleive there is any other damage. It would be a major PITA to fish all of that wire out from the main wiring harness. Do you think I could just cut all the bad out and soder new wires in? The gauges are not all the same so I would have to figure out the gauge of each but that wouldn't be to hard. What do you think?

You would be crazy to fix it any other way. Dont use butt connectors, get some compatible wire and some shrink tubing and do it right. When done see what you can do to tuck the harness up away from the header so it doesnt happen again.

you could add extra to each length of wire so you have enough to route it another direction. one step up in gauge on each would be enough to cover any extra resistance caused by the extra length. just my opinion but it seems you need to route them in another area. and I would suggest you spend some extra on some heat wrap sheilding for the wires or even build a second heat sheild for the location. so they don't see that kind of heat again

Yea, I definately need to re-route the wires and more heat tape. I'm just wondering how long the wires have been fried. Oh well. Does anybody know the best place to get wires. I was thinking mabe a junk yard close to hear if they will let me cut the wires out <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
Oh yea, I got pictures, but I don't have any way of posting them. If someone would like to post them here, I could email them.
Thanks for the advice.

Wire-- NAPA. Get a few different colors, so you can kind of keep track of things. Have paper and pencil handy on the wipers and write things down as you go. Keep in glove box.
