Hey All, Im from the Isuzu side of the wire, but looking to pick up a truck, and of course Toys are looking appealing

I am looking at late 90s tacos.... 4x4 of course

1) Is the 2.7 really that much better than the 3.4 in the mileage category? I do a lot of highway driving, so I would like good mpg, but also haul my quad and sometimes a 2 place trailer (roughly 1200 pounds trailer weight), so would the 2.7 even be worth the time to look into, or just stick to the 6 cyl? I have a 3.2 6 in my rodeo with 190 hp and similair torque, so I would like to not go the way of the 4 cyl unless its a noticable increse in mpg... what are you 3.4 guys getting mpg wise?

2) Who tows with the tacoma? Like I said it will be a lighter trailer (maybe 1200 pounds, with another 500 ish ounds in the bed)... Mostly flat land, but some hills, and may even a few mountain passes depending on where I am going to ride.... How do they handle the tow rate, how do they handle the tongue weight? How is the rear suspension in the tacos, Im not gonna have severe sag from my 400 pound quad in the bed am I?

3) What are some known problems on these trucks and engines? Like in what should I look out for when checking out and test driving the truck..

4) Anything else I should look out for? Is a limited slip available in the rear from the factory, if so I do I tell ifs its so equipped?

There aren't any "known problems" or common problems on either engine, they are both rock solid.

On my 2.7L w/ 5-spd, I have averaged 22.85mpg since I got it, with a high of 27mpg on a highway road trip.

My neighbor tows a 12ft HD steel trailer with quads up and down the small hills of eastern Ohio w/ his 2.7L w/o any problems, it goes just as well as unloaded.

The Taco rear leaf springs are quite soft, a yard and a half of dirt has mine sitting on the bumpstops. This can be remedied easily enough.

No limited slips from the factory, sorry. Some do have the factory electric locker option, which is very desireable.
