Any advice on water pump/timing belt tensioner change?It's done!!

I was going to have a local shop fix but not having any luck finding anyone willing to tackle. I have done several domestic water pumps, but this thing sounds like a pain. A friend and I plan on tackling this on Sat. Any sugestions would be helpful. what sucks is I just replaced the top rad hoses and the belt and the serp tensioner pullies about 2 weeks ago and not I have to take that all apart-again. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" /> any help --heck if anybody happens to be down on vacation in sunny Florida and your missing getting your hands greasy drop me a line and I'll give you directions <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

estimates were 5-7 HUNDRED for job. Got my parts now. New Dayco belt, new water pump, and tensioner/belt kit--all for just under 85 bucks. That being said there is definatly some labor involved. I sent you 3 files (8MB) via email but the mail was returned due to email over limit. I re-sent each file separately in hopes that at least one will sneak through. If you don't get them and run into a problem or have a question, post here and I'll check in every now and then - or others with 3.0L motors will be able to help you. There should be plenty of experienced folks here for the job you're doing - it's a fairly common job on the 3.0L.

I need this info too. Something is making a nasty ticking noise and best we can tell from the old listening methods, it isn't a lifter or the exhaust. I looked around the manifold and exhaust connections and nothing showed soot. The head sounded quiet as can be, so it is down to waterpump or a tensioner. If it is tensioner, we think it may be the one on the driver's side of the fan.
What is a time estimate for this little task? I have done water pumps and timing belts before, but this is my first on a Montero.
Might be tackling this Sunday, but probably not enough time to do so and have it wrapped up. I have to drop the Montero back off where the tranny work was done to have them re-fix the torque converter. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/barf.gif" alt="" /> Must be running by Sunday evening at the latest.

It can be done without removing the intake mainfold. Just follow the steps for replacing a timing belt, but then, remove the water pump. The coolant pipe that goes into the back of the water pump is secured by two bolts which fasten to the back of the passenger side head. Make sure you replace the O-ring on the end of that water pipe, and apply some silicone based O-ring lube on the O-ring to make it easier to slide the new water pump into place. I recommend using a good RTV sealant on both sides of the water pump adapter plate gasket and water pump gasket. I've had them leak without the RTV.
Use a 1/4" angle grinder with some 2" roloc 3M surface conditioning discs to prepare your gasket surfaces, its super quick.
You'll find that its not such a difficult job, just take your time.
