Getting the Wheeling Fever
1995 2WD T100 with 200K. I have been experiencing sluggish acceleration when the engine is cold for about 6 to 9 months now. I press the accelerator and the engine just bogs down. I haven't done much to figure it out, but this weekend I pulled the MAF to check it out. According to the FSM, I should be getting a resistence reading. Guess what, nothing. Doesn't even register. But, if I start the engine with it disconnected, it dies. Is the MAF bad and need replacing?

Also, I found my battery ground wire was not attached. Don't think this could be the problem, but thought I would ask.

I don't know about the MAF and all, but you should try to clean up the intake path antway.

Also, my '95 was doggy, and would produce a check light if I accelerated hard. So, I tried some fuel injector cleaner and top-end cleaner (sucked in through a vacuum port in the intake manifold). It helped, but didn't totally remedty the sicuation.

Then I just tried running several tanks of premium (Chevron and Shell) and I swear it runs better now. No check engine light since. So now I run premium every other tank or so.
Your results may vary.

Now that you mention it. I did a SeaFoam treatment a few months back and it didn't seem to help. I also changed the fuel filter and did a test with premium gas for about 3 months without any improvement. The spark plugs have been changed regularly along with the air filter, oil, and minor stuff.

Any other suggestions. After it is warmed up, it doesn't feel sluggish.

Yep. Checked that a while back. It has to be something to do with the engine temp. When cold it is sluggish, when warm it is normal. Almost like the ECU is getting bad information from somewhere on how to mix the fuel and air. I read somewhere that someone thought it could be a vacuum leak. When the engine is warm that it might not be as apparent. I don't know.

I will monitor a little closer the next few days and see what I can come up with.

Could be something as simple as your thermostat... Probably make you run like crap if that's stuck wide open while your engine is still cool.

Thanks 4xGeek. I knew someone would throw out a DOH!! comment that I hadn't thought of yet. I bet you hit the nail on the head. I have to do the timing belt soon, so I will check the thermostat then.

Fwiw, opening up my intake tract helped my throttle response...
