Getting the Wheeling Fever
I picked up a 87 4runner with a broken timing chain. I rebuilt the engine(T-chain, bearings, pistons, rebuilt head) Fired it up but I'm not showing any oil pressure on the gauge. How do I identify the problem? (Pressure switch? Wiring? or?) rj

Check to see if the wire is properly connected. If you want to cross check the oil pressure, put a gauge on one of the oil galley ports to check it. After that, wiring/gauge.

With it having a broken timing chain, I'd recommend a leakdown check as well. This is an interference engine, so you might've clanged the valves. Easy enough to do as a precaution.

Think hard, when reassembling were all oil gallery plugs reinstalled? There are 3 hidden plugs, 1 will let you know immediately. Front and back of engine block along the main line with the filter. The most forgotten gallery plug that results in ZERO pressure on the guage is the small plug directly below the sensor and filter in the oil pan. Try remembering if you put that puppy back in, without it the oil is picked up by the pump and redeposited in the pan prior to filtration.
