Getting the Wheeling Fever
I have a 85' 22r that I just rebuilt after the cam broke sending slivers of metal throughout the engine damaging everthing. I have the engine completally installed in the truck and I am wondering how to prime the oil pump with oil. I have assemblally lube on the bearings and in the pump but is that enough? Thanks for your response.

I always pack my pump housings with vaseline. I make the wife go buy it of course....not that there is anything wrong with a man buying it...but ya know what I mean??

Its compatible with engine oil and mixes right in. Havent had an oil related failure yet since doing this. EB's the one that told me to, and it works great. Instant oil pressure! Also when initially loading the oil, I leave the valve cover off and pour directly over the camshaft to ensure there is plenty of oil topside for the cam lobes etc.

Removed the oil pressure relief valve nut, pour some oil in, replace the nut.
Than pull the sparkplugs and crank it over ontill the oil light go's out(should take about 5 secs).

thanks for all of the responses. I Took the garden spayer, as recomended, filled it with 3 quarts of oil and riged up hose to fit where my oil pressure sensure was and it worked. it brought oil all the way up to rocker arms. i poured the last quart over th arms and chain. the motor started right up like it had been running for ever. not bad for being my first rebuild at 16.

Is it me, or is your generation clueless on cars. My 19 year old step-son is basically worthless when it comes to vehicles. I'll make darn sure my kid won't be that way.

Great confidence builder to follow the instructions, and get it right the first time. I did my first engine when I was about that age and the experience started me on a great money saving career of rebuilding my own stuff. (and other peoples occasionally) I agree with the previous post about kids not having a clue. Auto shop should be mandatory.

It's true about kids my age knowing nothing about cars. I've always had an interest since I got my first car at 10 (a 1981 toyota celica). When I got it, it didnt run, but my dad and I took off all the smog which got it running and I turned it into a go-cart taking off everthing above the frame exept the seats leaving a unibody and motor. This was one heck of an off roader with a pair of Wrangler studded snow tires on the back. With this combo I beat a 4x4 Tacker in a pasture race with over 2 feet of pure mud.

I really agree with Auto Shop being mandatory. It's funny to see a kid trying to impress the girls by replacing their brake pads for them, when the first thing the do after removing tire/wheel, is disconnect the brake line at the caliper to push the piston back.
