Not all Rodeos/Passports have limited slip, but it was an option. If yours says to put limited slip additive in it, I'd say you're one of the fortunate ones that has it. Gearing depends on 4wd/2wd, engine, and transmission, I think, but there's still not a total agreement on exactly which came with what.

I'll let someone more personally familiar with the LS setup answer the rest of your question.

James

I will either have a tag on the diff that says something about it or have the G80 code on the options plate in the engine compatment on the firewall

Sorry to hijack ur thread but, I'm curious to know if you got the option with the G80 code will it also contain an LSD up front in the 10-bolt diff???

No , the G80 option won't include the LSD in the front differential , only the rear.I think there are very few vehicles that you could get a LSD as an option in the front as it can affect your steering a little , and if you don't compensate for it , it can get you into trouble pretty easy on wet slippery roads or snow.

FYI, it's a Trak-Loc LSD, same as used in Jeeps. They do tend to have a useable life expectancy in the 60k range or so... But you can drop a No-Slip locker in there for about $300 or so, very effective.

Sometimes the Trak-Loc needs a little coercing, like a few clicks on the parking brake, to get it to engage, especially when they get older. Try that and see if it does the trick... Of course, it might just be that all the clutch packs are getting worn down...

Is this available as of yet (locker), or are you talking about the power-brute diff by precision gear?

I got a buddy selling me a troop and it has the g80 but, i'm only after the 2.6 motor. Motor still runs but the body is rusted pretty good. If the rear brakes aren't too shot I may just swap out axles too.

hah! clutch packs you say so it might not be my imagination. when accelerating i can almost feel a light clicking, thumping and you can just about hear it also, but none of it is definite enough to be able to pinpoint its whereabouts. thanx guys i guess it's time to drop the cover

Some data that I have on the 12-bolt LSD is that our 92 with 212k miles on it still has a tight LSD. It takes 2 tubes of LSD additive to stop the chatter after a fluid change. It is also not possible to turn one wheel by hand without the other one turning (in the same direction). Maybe that Trooper just shipped with a tight one.
