Serpentine belt alignment question #575915 03/03/05 08:50 PM

I replaced my serpentine belt a few months ago and I just replaced it again last week- the belt had a strip about 1/4" wide and 18" long gone off of it.

I got it from Advanced and it had a 1 year replacement warranty so the second was no charge . The second belt was much beefier and I think a little smaller because it was much harder to get on.

OK, here is the question- I notice that the belt looks fine on all pulleys except the tensioner- it rides right against the front lip of the tensioner that keeps the belt from falling off, is there some kind of adjustment that I can make to resolve this or is it normal?

Top center of the engine? On mine, the tensioner has rounded corners (radiused away from the belt) so there isn't a lip to affect anything.

Be that as it may, stand at the side of the engine compartment and line your eye up with the belt and look to see if any of the pulleys seem out of alignment. If so, you may need some spacers or adjustments to some brackets to get all the pulleys in the same plane.

Good luck!

I have this exact same problem... not sure if the tensioner is bent from age or wtf the issue is.

It's definitely not normal, kinda scary actually so I keep a spare belt in my truck (i know it's a good idea anyway.. but jeez )
