Minimum lift for a YJ? #575985 03/03/05 11:43 PM

Hello

My friend has a very clean, stock 90 YJ that he recently purchased (yes this is really for my friend and not me....I have a CJ). We call it "power puff" because of the silly little wheels on it. He wants to go crazy on lift and tires but summer is around the corner and my friend is short on funds and time. Here in NY summer is barely 3 months long and any time the Jeep is on jackstands is wasted time. Since my friend wants to get rid of his "power puff" image I suggested that he just go with tires this year and worry about his major suspension lift next year. He wants to go with 33"x12.50" tires.

My (his) question is...What is the minimum (and inexpensive ) lift that will fit his 33"x12.50" tires just to get him through this summer? I was thinkin maybe a shackle and/or 1" body lift? He doesnt go off road much...its mostly a daily driver, summer Jeep.

Thanks

well there is few way to go about it 1. 3in body lift(may still rub fiender gaurd.)2. 3in body with 1 in helper spring or sackels. i have the same yj i installed a 4 in sup lift and i still rub when off camber so another thang i 32-12.5-15 with 3 in body lift and he should be good.

my recommendation is not to go with the cheapest! Get a good 4" lift (suspension) to handle those 33" tires, Rubicon Express, or similar quality.

Okay, go with the spring kit suspension lift.... I got a 2.5 inch deal that runs a little high now a days, but runs a fair price. It comes with the new springs, shocks, brake line adapters, etc that are necessary.... Then, the tires are farily simple. I run the 31X12.50X15's on stock rims... Cheap as it comes... and I get really good reaction from the susepension and the handling of the rig. I am pretty sure that you could run 33's with this deal and get away with it.... It is the 4WD Hardware kit that is from them and comes with dang near everything that you will need for a basic lift. I had 2 inch front shackle lifts to begin with, so had to buy the pitman arm to go on it, but isn't necessary with the standard lift.... You will need the tires on the lift, but it runs farily cheap. Tires cost more than the lift.... I would seriously consider doing a bump stop adjustment, which will run about $0.50 in washers when you do this lift.... Not too bad for what it would cost the dealer for diagnostics and stuff.....

Good luck and hope that you work this out well. Let us know what you guys decide and how this transition goes!

Any information is useful, we are always interested in learning!

Best of luck!

If he can't afford a proper lift just put 31's on it with a good beefy tread. It will still lift it a bit and he won't look like a powder puff with his cute little tires.
That is what I did till I could afford to put a lift in it.

31's would rub way too much unless the suspension was brand new.... Might be worth it to add a little lift, deal with the cute tires and then put them on as soon as he can....
