Getting the Wheeling Fever
I have a '90 ram50 3.0. The column shift seems sloppy. I have a hard time engaging into drive and back into park. I need to play around with it to get it to engage. I think the cable from the column to the tranny is loose. Anyway to tighten it up? Thanks.

Body Damage is Cool
My tranny was not cable operated. The linkage runs aft from the gear shift lever (on the passenger side) then across the back of the tranny and then forward up the driver side to the lever on the tranny. Lots of places for loose parts. Get under and watch while someone else shifts
gears (engine not running, wheels blocked).

Bob is on the right track. When I first got my '90 Montero the auto shift was very sloppy. I did what Bob said and found some worn out bushings. I imagine the dealer could sell you some new ones. I found some in great shape at the local wrecking yard. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />
