This connection is on the injection harness... connector is grey. Wires are black and white. 1988 Trooper 2.6, 5-speed. Photo posted at http://photobucket.com/albums/y2/jonnyarch723/?action=view&current=Image006.jpg

Thanks... Jon

It is for something on the California emisions models as far as I know. On my '88 it just hangs out back by the distributor. I don't think it goes to anything on a federal emmissions model. There was just something about this wire in a recent post. Again, on all FED emissions models, it is not used as far as I know, at least on the FED/5-speed rigs.

That is good news. I will just go ahead and let it hang out as shown. Almost have this thing together. Had a couple coolant leaks once it was ready to start... should have those solved now. Thanks for the fast reply.

Yup, drives the MAP, EGR solinoid or EGR temp sensor or some silly thing. CA Emissions, not needed other wise.

There is a sensor on the Throttle Body tunnel , its towards the back by the EGR valve. That is where it plugs into.
Just did it last night on mine. Mines not a Cal car either.

You may still have a california emissions model. Pop the tray out of you console and look at the top of the computer. If it has an FED, then it is federal emissions, I don't know what the Californication mark is, but if you have that sensor, you at least have some California parts. Mine has no sensor in that location.

Hmm, who da thunk it. Mine has a big CAL on top. I never even paid attention I know it was sold new in Iowa, and I am the second owner. After all the time driving this and working on it, I never knew it was a California car. Hmmm, then why was it rusting??

Can I strip things off then ? Would I need to get a FED brain box? would it really make a difference?

The California cars end up all over the place. It doesn't have to be sold new in Cali to have the package. I don't know about just changing the computer. There are probably some other factors/changes beyond that one sensor. Someone else might be able to tell you more.
