I had not heard that about the headers before Jeff. I have had my TRD headers on for over 4 years now without a problem.

Well peeps, I finally got to cleaning that MAF sensor on Saturday. It was a little tricky to get them screws out without stripping the heck out of them but I managed with vice grips and a small little ratchet that holds the bits in it. It worked pretty well. smile

Anyway, I really only drove it today a few times so hopefully it is what was causing the light to come on.

I thank everyone who has helped so far. That link to where and how to do it, made life pretty damn easy.

Thanks again and I will keep surfin the board to see if I can help anyone with anything as well. smile

Thanks,
Dan

Well I spoke to soon because driving home on the parkway it came back on. I believe I might not of thoroughly cleaned this sensor correctly.

In the diagram of the sensor, it shows two little wires or resistors they almost look like, that I didn't actually see when I took it out. I only saw something in the middle of the sensor holder?? I guess you would call it that looked like an led attached a two legged prong almost. There was residue on one side of this that I sprayed off real good but I guess the wires/resistors are in the piece where the wire harness connects to??

If they are in this piece, and not visible when you take the whole sensor piece out, do you have to actually "unlock or unscrew" that stem coming off the sensor to get to these wires??

I didn't want to break anything so I didn't try to take that piece off. I just thought I might of got a "newer or different" sensor in the truck I have.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank in advance,
Dan

Hi Dan,

If you look inside the opening at the top of the plastic piece, you will see the two small resistors that make up the MAF sensor. I wasn't able to see them without a flashlight. I ended up using my camping head lamp (aimed straight down) so I could see the wires while spraying them clean. Remember these things are tiny and they look exactly like the picture in the article. You'll know when you see them. Good luck,

Nico

Thanks Nico. Did you understand what I meant by the "led" or thermal resistor that looked to be attached two legs as well??

I definitely didn't look in the top of that piece. Did you use the tiny hose to get at it or not chance it and just blast it with the spray? As a matter of fact, I threw out the hose before I even did this on saturday thinking it was just a straw. It must of came off the can and I didn't realize it. lol

Do you recommend me grabbing another can with the hose I can attatch or just squirt it down until it looks all clean?

Dan

Yeah, I'm not sure what the "led" looking thing with the two wires is for. You can probably tell by the number of posts I've made on this board that I am by no means an expert on the electrical and mechanical systems of the 4Runner. I'm sure someone out there would be happy to tell us what that thing is though.

I did end up using the little straw that came with the can of QD cleaner just because without it I was spraying that stuff all over the place. I just made sure I was very carefull not to get too close to the wires so I wouldn't bend or break them.

I think you should be able to get them clean without the straw. No need to waist your money on another can just for a straw.

Nico

LOL.....Well look at it this way, we both had the same problem occur and you know the "led" I am talking about. So we can say we are learning together. smile
Plus, you helped me out very quickly and I know now I didn't clean it right. So, thanks for that! I will let you know how everything goes.

Nico and all who helped me out. I did take the MAF sensor back out last Tuesday and saw the wires this time. I cleaned them very well and put the sensor back in place. I reset the fuse again that day and have been driving back and forth on the parkway for 3 full days.
I believe I am good now since the other two times the sensor came back on the next day practically. So, thanks for the help and I will be scoping out the board like I said and will help if I can.

Thanks,
Dan
